History

The retinue plays the king

It is a common knowledge that the location of the hotel is a very influential factor. Located in the centre of Tyumen business environment, Hotel Eurasia constitutes an ideal place for different-level business meetings. The location in the historical centre of the city and the proximity of administrative buildings, such as the offices of autonomous district representatives, Tyumen region council, the government of Tyumen region, the city hall and modern office blocks surrounding the hotel prove again that the retinue plays the king.

But let’s look back at Tyumen several centuries ago in the hope that this retrospective glance can reveal the reasons for Hotel Eurasia to be located in this part of the city, more precisely, at the corner of Sovetskaya and Chelyuskintsy Streets.

Tyumen, a city on the Great Road

Modern Tyumen has the right to be called a successor of ancient civilizations. This city was located on the trade routes connecting European and Asian countries. In the early Middle Ages, a trans-Ural system of water and land trade routes was developed to provide commercial relations of the Great Tyumen city – the capital of Tyumen khanate – with the countries of the Arabian caliphate, China, Bukhara, the Volga Bulgaria. Foreign merchants followed the trade route lying along the Volga and the Kama rivers straight to the north to reach Yugra, where they could barter their goods for furs. Land trade routes lied across Tyumen khanate towards the south where they entered the Great Chinese Silk Road.

After Siberia had been annexed to Russia, Tyumen city was founded on the site of the former capital of Tyumen khanate. Moscow-Siberian road lay through this city to connect Moscow and the Far East. A favourable location of Tyumen contributed to developing transit commerce and fixed shop retailing in the city. Tyumen was characterized by a quick formation of the social class of the merchants, who laid the basis of values appropriate to business and promoted the principles of moral economy, patronage of arts, charity and the culture of ancestral memory.

You can still feel the olden times in the air of Tyumen, due to the ancient houses of merchants, shops, inns and hotels conveying the atmosphere of business life in ancient Tyumen, which lay on the Great Road. Thus, the location of Business Hotel Eurasia was conditioned by the history of this merchant city and seems favourable as it was the crossing of the trade routes connecting Europe and Asia.

The hotel location is peculiar as well. In the past, the territory between Khokhryakov and Sovetskaya Streets was occupied by the mansion that belonged to V. P. Burkov, who was one of the most famous Tyumen merchants. His homestead included a dwelling house, a garden-house, gates and a shop with warehouses. The House of Burkov has an artistic value and ranks among the best samples of wooden municipal architecture of the late XIX century.

Eurasia business icebreaker

Nowadays Business Hotel Eurasia offers a superb array of facilities for both business and relaxation. It quickly obtained the recognition and became popular with representatives of the world business circles, film and pop stars, political elite, numerous business tourists and guests of the city.

P.S. We are very grateful to the department of social and cultural service and tourism of the ecological and geographical faculty of Tyumen State University and personally to Natalya Balyuk, doctor of historical sciences, professor, for the information given.
